Select R408 credits
The R408 Credit Selector (Tab 2) is Ohio's prescriptive "additional efficiency credit" pathway. You pick the efficiency measures the proposed home uses, and the tool confirms the home earns enough credits to comply. Staff and external reviewers can both edit this tab.
Set the building size
The required number of credits depends on conditioned floor area:
- Small (under 5,000 square feet) requires 10 credits.
- Large (5,000 square feet or more) requires 15 credits.
Set the building size first, because it sets the target the rest of the tab works toward.
Two climate zones at once
Ohio spans Climate Zone 4 and Climate Zone 5. A measure can be worth a different number of credits in each zone, and some measures do not apply in a given zone at all. The selector tracks both zones side by side, so you can confirm the proposed package complies in both CZ4 and CZ5. A progress bar for each zone shows how close the current selection is to the required credits.
Toggle measures
Measures are grouped into categories — for example Envelope, Fenestration, HVAC Equipment, Water Heating, and Renewable Energy. Turn on each measure the proposed home includes. As you toggle measures, the per-zone credit totals and progress bars update.
Mutual-exclusion groups
Some measures cannot be combined because they describe the same thing at different levels (for example, two different total-load-reduction percentages, or competing fenestration options). These are mutual-exclusion groups: selecting one measure in the group automatically rules out the others. The selector enforces this so you cannot accidentally double-count.
When the package complies
A proposed package is compliant in a zone when it meets both of these:
- The selected measures total at least the required credits for the building size, and
- At least two distinct measures are selected.
Confirm both Climate Zone 4 and Climate Zone 5 are compliant before relying on the result.
